New method separates continuous and jump components in stock market volatility.
Realized bipower variation is a new method that can estimate integrated variance in models with stochastic volatility and rare jumps. It is more robust to infrequent jumps compared to realized variance. This method can separate the continuous and jump components of quadratic variation, which was not possible before. The research provides various extensions and proofs for these results.
