Lower elasticity of substitution in production could explain global income differences.
The study estimated how easily capital and labor can be swapped in production. They used data from different countries to find that the ease of substitution is 0.7, lower than the usual 1. This means that differences in income between countries can be explained by how well they use capital and labor, rather than other factors.
