Winter pruning in grapevines affects root growth and canopy development. Researchers studied the impact of winter pruning on the root system of Pinot Gris grapevines. They compared two pruning treatments and found that winter pruning stimulated root growth and distribution without hindering canopy growth. In contrast, no pruning led to less root growth but a larger canopy. This study highlights the importance of understanding the relationship between roots and above-ground plant parts to optimize grapevine cultivation practices.
