The study looked at whether joining the WTO or GATT increases trade between countries. Using data from over 50 years and 175 countries, the researchers found little evidence that being part of these agreements affects trade patterns. However, they did find that the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) does have a strong impact on trade.
