Knowledge flows between European regions decrease as the distance between them increases. Regions closer together share more knowledge, especially within the same country. This was found by analyzing patent citations as a measure of knowledge connections. The study also considered factors like production structure and economic conditions, but distance was the main influence on knowledge exchange.
