Accurate estimates of future demand and product substitutions are crucial for optimizing retail assortments. A new model called reference dependent logit (RDL) was developed using store sales and inventory data to estimate demand and substitution probabilities. The RDL model was found to provide robust and efficient estimates compared to other models.
