Global economic growth linked to synchronized business cycles, study finds.
The business cycles of major economies are synchronized, but standard models can't explain why. A new model shows that country-specific productivity shocks can cause this synchronization. By assuming certain preferences and weak wealth effects, the model reveals that a productivity increase in one country can boost the other country's economy. This means that when one country does well, it can help the other country's economy too.
