The article examines wage structure and labor mobility in the Netherlands from 1999 to 2003. Despite a centralized wage negotiation system, market forces mainly determined wage growth. Workers with similar wages saw similar increases in different-sized firms. Low-skilled workers in high-demand industries received larger wage hikes. Individual differences, not firm-level factors, drove most wage growth variations.
