Surprising finding: Carbon capture and storage not cost-effective for curbing climate change, even with optimistic cost estimates.
The research looked at whether using carbon capture and storage (CCS) technology to reduce CO2 emissions is the best way to fight climate change. They used a model to study how investing in CCS and its research affects the overall outcome. Surprisingly, they found that even with a relatively low cost for CCS, it's not the best option for reducing emissions in the short or long term. Only when the cost of using CCS drops to less than $12 per ton of CO2 does it become a good choice for the future, including investing in its development.
