The article looks at how manufacturing industries in China grew from 1999 to 2007. They studied four groups of industries in four regions. They found that the growth in output was mainly due to the size of the industries, not improvements in how they work. Labor is not as important as it used to be, with human and physical resources becoming more crucial. The industries are changing, and some regions are growing faster than others.
