Developing Countries Face Uneven Gains from Global Trade Liberalization
The article examines how trade liberalization affects developing countries, focusing on agriculture. By using a new classification method, it distinguishes between countries that compete with OECD producers in agriculture and those that do not. The study shows that while liberalization generally benefits developing countries, low-income exporters of primary agricultural products may see a decrease in net exports due to increased competition.
