The impact of regional trade agreements and trade facilitation in the Middle East and North Africa region

Paper Summary

Regional trade agreements and trade facilitation can help improve trade in the Middle East and North Africa region. By using a model called GTAP, researchers found that agreements within the region and with the European Union can increase welfare in MENA. Integrating with the EU brings at least double the welfare gains compared to regional integration. When trade agreements are combined with trade facilitation improvements, welfare gains can triple.
