The study uses a new dataset and finds that fees vary based on factors like ownership by banks, fund age, and fund size. Contrary to the US market, larger funds in Spain do not have lower fees. Additionally, some funds receive better terms from custodial institutions. Overall, mutual fund fees in Spain are not solely determined by fund performance or investment objectives.
