Eroding minimum wages countered by income support measures in EU countries.
Governments in the EU have been working to help low-wage workers as wages are under pressure. From 2001-2012, minimum wages in some EU countries have been decreasing, but new Member States are catching up. To counter this, governments are providing more direct income support, especially for single parents, by reducing income taxes. Overall, there is a trend towards using taxes to support people with low incomes.
