Survey reveals people value security more when setting feels realistic.
The study looked at how people value power supply security. They found that on average, people are willing to accept more money to give up security than they are willing to pay to keep it. However, when people think the situation is likely to happen, this difference decreases. On the other hand, if people think the situation is unlikely, the difference increases. This means that asking people how realistic they think the scenario is can help reduce the gap between what they are willing to accept and what they are willing to pay for security.
