The study found that trade between countries in the Baltic Sea Region, at borders, and between current EU members and new applicants follows predictable patterns. Trade between Eastern and Western countries is not as strong, and there are differences in how these groups trade internationally. Lessons from the Baltic Sea Region can help new countries integrate into the EU and develop better trade relationships.
