Polycentric cities boost productivity, sharing economic benefits among metropolitan areas.
The study looked at how different city structures affect how well they perform economically in the U.S. Polycentric cities, with multiple centers, tend to have higher productivity than cities with just one main center. This suggests that in polycentric cities, negative effects of crowding are less, and benefits of being close to other cities are shared. However, having many smaller cities close together doesn't make up for the benefits of one big city.
