China's Aid Allocation Not Rogue, Driven by Political Interests.
Foreign aid from China is often seen as being given based on China's own interests rather than the needs of the recipient countries. However, a study looked at data from 1956 to 2006 and found that while China does consider politics when giving aid, it is not significantly different from other donors. Contrary to popular belief, China's aid is not mainly influenced by natural resources in recipient countries. Additionally, China's aid is not strongly tied to the level of democracy or governance in the recipient country. Overall, labeling China's aid as "rogue aid" is not supported by the data.
