Tunisia's Economy Surges with Labor Driving Productivity Growth Shifts.
The article measures and explains total factor productivity (TFP) growth in Tunisia from 1983 to 1996. TFP is defined as the shift of the economy's production frontier using a linear programming method. The study finds that TFP grew by 0.4% per year overall, with significant growth after 1991. Labor was the main contributor to TFP growth, followed by capital in the later period. The Solow residual was the primary driver of TFP growth, while changes in terms of trade and demand composition had negative effects.
