The study looked at how job income uncertainty affects how much people spend in the US from 1952 to 2001. They found that overall job income risk doesn't have much impact on spending changes. Instead, individual job income risk plays a bigger role in how much people spend. This individual risk is influenced by consumer transfers. So, personal job income risk is important for the economy as a whole.
