The article explores how companies benefit from getting knowledge from other countries for creating breakthrough innovations. They studied data from Spanish companies between 2004 and 2013. The research shows that companies making big innovations gain more from getting knowledge from outside sources than those making small changes. It's also better to get knowledge from businesses rather than universities or research centers. And after the financial crisis, getting knowledge from foreign companies became even more profitable for creating breakthrough innovations.
