The study looks at how consumers search for prices in a market with multiple sellers. They find that when it costs money to get price quotes, consumers sometimes choose not to search at all. The number of shoppers and firms affects this behavior. Interestingly, as search costs go down, prices are expected to go up. This is different from what was previously thought.
