Asia's Free Trade Pact Promises Prosperity, Warns of Exclusion Perils
A large group of countries in the Pacific Rim wants to create a free trade area by 2020. They used a special model to see how this would affect their economies. The results show that everyone in the group would make more money from this idea. Countries like the US, China, and some from Southeast Asia will benefit the most. If they exclude even one of these regions, it will harm them all. The countries in Asia that are rapidly developing have the most to gain from being part of this big free trade plan. If they don't include China, these Asian countries will lose about half of the benefits. The best outcome is when this idea includes even more countries, not just those in the Pacific Rim. This way, everyone gains more than if they only focused on their own area.
