Juries tend to award more punitive damages than judges, especially in cases with awards over $100 million. This difference is most noticeable in the largest awards. Juries are also more likely to give higher compensatory damages, which then lead to higher punitive damages. The amount of punitive damages awarded by juries is not strongly linked to compensatory damages.
