Labeling status quo boosts attractiveness, revealing bias in decision-making.
People tend to stick with what they know and are hesitant to change, even if there might be better options available. This is because we tend to see the current situation as better than it actually is, especially when we label it as the "status quo". When asked to evaluate different policies, people rated the ones labeled as status quo more favorably. Looking at the pros and cons of each policy, it was clear that losses have a bigger impact on our decisions than gains. This shows that our fear of losing something is stronger than our desire to gain something new.
