Rising temperatures have a big negative impact on productivity and output. A study found that a temperature shock can lower output and labor productivity growth by 1.4 percentage points over 50 years. This leads to significant welfare costs, amounting to 18.4% of lifetime utility. However, faster adaptation to temperature shocks can reduce these costs.
