Trade Liberalization Lifts Zimbabweans Out of Poverty, Boosts Exports
In this study, a special model was used to see how changing trade rules in Zimbabwe affects poverty. Instead of guessing with average families, they looked at 14006 real households. When all taxes on trade went away, businesses making things for export did better, and Zimbabwe bought more items from other countries. Poverty in Zimbabwe decreased, but the difference in wealth between people stayed pretty much the same. The results showed that the impact on poverty was different in towns and in the countryside.
