The US aims to use one billion gallons of renewable jet fuel each year by 2018. Researchers studied the economic and emissions impacts of this goal using renewable fuel made from oils. If soybean oil is used, airlines would need to subsidize biofuel producers by 2.69pergallon.Ifoilseedrotationcropsareused,thesubsidywouldbe2.69 per gallon. If oilseed rotation crops are used, the subsidy would be 2.69pergallon.Ifoilseedrotationcropsareused,thesubsidywouldbe0.35 per gallon. This goal has a small effect on jet fuel prices and carbon emissions. The cost to reduce one ton of CO2 with aviation biofuels ranges from 50to50 to 50to400.
