Mega-farms may hinder productivity growth and worsen inequality in global agriculture
The study looked at large farms in Ukraine to see if bigger farms are more productive. They found that high yields and profits were not just because the farms were big. Instead, it was the efficient ways the farms were run that made them successful. The growth in productivity happened because less efficient farms closed down and better ones started. When areas had many huge farms, there was less growth in productivity. This means having a few very large farms may not be the best for making agriculture better overall.
