The article discusses how mainstream economics is changing due to the presence of different research programs that deviate from traditional neoclassical economics. These new approaches are pursued by separate groups of researchers and originate from outside the field of economics. Instead of moving towards a new mainstream, the changing state of economics is likely to continue due to specialization and the creation of new specialties. Collaboration with researchers from other disciplines also plays a role in this evolution.
