Income inequality skyrockets in China due to transition, impacting rural and urban areas.
The study looked at income inequality in China in 1988 and 1995. They found that changes in money income and housing allocation were the main reasons for the increase in inequality in rural China. In urban areas, more retirees receiving higher benefits also contributed to the rise in inequality.
