Ultra-early wheat planting boosts yield and stability in changing climates.
Ultra-early planting of spring wheat in western Canada can boost grain yield and stability. By planting wheat as soon as soil temperatures hit 0°C, and before they reach 7.5-10°C, farmers can increase yields. The best results come from planting early, using high seeding rates, and shallow seeding depths. Despite cold temperatures after planting, plant survival was not affected. This approach can lead to more grain production and protein content per area, even with climate change increasing temperatures.
