The researchers discovered that by crushing the coal, washing it, and removing fine particles, they could produce cleaner coal with less ash. They also found that using flotation to separate the coal further improved its quality. The proposed washing process resulted in a clean coal product that met Vietnam's coal quality standards and could be used in local power plants.
