Protestant regions in late 19th-century Prussia were more prosperous and had better education because reading the Bible helped them gain important skills for success. Literacy among Protestants can explain why they were wealthier than non-Protestants. The study used data from Prussia to show that being Protestant was linked to higher economic prosperity and education levels.
