Renewable Portfolio Standards Boost Wind Energy Generation, Reducing Reliance on Fossil Fuels.
Renewable Portfolio Standard programs are being used by many states to increase renewable energy generation and reduce reliance on nonrenewable sources. These programs require utility companies to produce a set amount of electricity from renewable sources. Analysis shows that these programs have led to more wind energy being generated, indicating their effectiveness in boosting wind energy production. Interestingly, different renewable sources like wind, solar, and geothermal do not compete with each other in terms of cost efficiency, possibly due to the early stage of these programs.
