Communal land in Zimbabwe is supposed to be shared among the community, but people are buying and selling it anyway. This is making it harder for poor rural people to make a living. The researchers studied land transactions in Svosve Communal Area and found that informal sales and rentals are becoming more common. This goes against the idea of communal land rights and is hurting the livelihoods of the rural poor.
