Aerosol Growth Model Predicts Impact on Air Quality and Emissions.
The scientists developed a model to study how aerosols grow in a CO2 capture system using monoethanolamine. They did experiments with sucrose instead of sulfuric acid to prevent equipment damage. The results showed that aerosol sizes increased regardless of sucrose concentration. The model accurately predicted aerosol size changes. They found that the number of particles in the system affects aerosol growth and amine emissions: more particles lead to smaller aerosols and higher amine emissions.
