New herbicide application method boosts wheat yield in Indian conditions
A study was done in a wheat field in Karnataka to see how different herbicides affect weed growth and wheat yield. Using a combination of pre and post-emergence herbicides was better at controlling weeds than using them alone. The best results came from using pendimethalin followed by metsulfuron-methyl or 2,4-D. These treatments led to higher wheat yield by increasing plant height, tillers, and nutrient uptake. However, one herbicide, metribuzin, was harmful to the wheat plants. Overall, controlling weeds with herbicides helped increase wheat yield by reducing competition for nutrients and sunlight.
