Revolutionizing rice-based cropping systems for higher productivity and profitability.
A study looked at different ways to grow rice with other crops to see which was most productive and profitable. They found that growing rice with tomato and cowpea or with maize and okra gave the highest yields. These systems were much better than just growing rice with groundnut. The rice-tomato-cowpea system was the most efficient in using land, while rice-maize-okra and rice-tomato-cowpea gave the highest profits. Adding legumes like cowpea and French bean helped improve the soil's health by increasing organic carbon and nitrogen content. However, the soil's phosphorus and potassium levels decreased after several cropping cycles.
