Farmers Empowered to Manage Irrigation, Boost Crop Diversity and Productivity
The study looked at how transferring management of irrigation systems in Argentina affected farmers' satisfaction and water use. They compared two areas with different levels of management transfer. In the area where management was transferred, farmers had more control over water delivery schedules, leading to more diverse crops and higher water use. These farmers were also more aware of irrigation problems. In the area without management transfer, farmers noticed more issues as their knowledge and professionalism increased. Overall, the transferred area had better communication between farmers and managers compared to the non-transferred area.
