A three-year experiment in a third-grade classroom showed that using a variety of methods to teach vocabulary greatly improved students' overall vocabulary knowledge. The students learned words faster than the average for their age group, as shown by standardized tests. The study also found that the students were actively engaged in the vocabulary lessons, and the teacher became more skilled at teaching vocabulary over time. This successful approach could help improve how elementary students learn new words in the future.
