New sugarcane genotype boosts sugar yield by 67% - potential game changer!
A study was conducted to compare different types of sugarcane plants for their yield and sugar content. The researchers looked at ten new types of sugarcane plants and compared them to a popular variety. They found that one of the new types, called 2011 R 274, had longer and thicker canes, heavier individual canes, and more internodes compared to the popular variety. This resulted in a significantly higher cane yield of 168 tons per hectare for 2011 R 274, while the popular variety only yielded 101 tons per hectare. Additionally, 2011 R 274 had a higher sugar content of 21.9% and produced 25.78 tons of sugar per hectare, making it a superior choice for sugar production.
