China's Forests Absorb Twice as Much Carbon, Boosting Climate Change Fight
Estimating forest biomass in China is important for understanding carbon storage. Researchers created models to predict how much carbon is stored in different types of forests across the country. They found that from 1949 to 1976, carbon in China's forests decreased, but from 1977 to 2018, it increased significantly. In 2018, the total carbon stored in forests more than doubled compared to 1949. This shows that China's forests are becoming better at storing carbon over time, which is good for the environment.
