Hillslope model predicts water erosion, enabling effective soil conservation
The new hillslope version of the rMMF water erosion model allows for infiltration of surface runoff along irregular hillslopes. By dividing the hillslope into sections with individual properties, the model accurately calculates surface runoff and soil loss. The model was tested using data from various locations and showed reasonable performance for surface runoff and poor performance for soil loss initially. However, after calibration, the model successfully reproduced measured surface runoff and erosion amounts, demonstrating its capability to simulate realistic water erosion patterns on hillslopes with soil and water conservation measures.
