Product development organizations in Sweden are exploring how to incorporate social sustainability into their work. Three companies were studied, showing varying approaches. The more advanced companies understand the complexity of social sustainability and work collaboratively to address it. They consider social issues beyond traditional hierarchies and involve multiple functions in the process. This broader perspective leads to a more comprehensive and aligned definition of social sustainability. However, challenges remain in integrating social sustainability into organizational practices, especially in product design activities.
