Artificial nourishments boost coastal sediment stability, combating erosion crisis.
Artificial nourishments can help reduce erosion in coastal areas by adding sediment to the shore. This study looked at how nourishments affect sediment transport along the coast over 5 years. They used a model to see where the nourished sediment goes based on different types of beaches and wave climates. The results show that nourishment impacts are strongest near where they are added. Sediment transport is higher with stronger waves, but not necessarily if the waves hit the shore at an angle.
