High-rise buildings in temperate climates can slash energy use by 42% with smart envelope design
This research looked at ways to save energy in tall office buildings in places with moderate climates like the Netherlands. They focused on the building's outer shell, which affects how much energy is used. By comparing energy use before and after some changes were made to a real office building, they found that small changes to things like the type of windows and shading can lead to big energy savings. The study suggests that by improving certain parts of the building design, like using the right windows and shading, energy use for heating and lighting can be reduced by a significant amount - up to 42% for total energy use, 64% for heating, and 34% for electric lighting.
