Revolutionizing Power Plants: New Technology Captures CO2 Without Energy Penalty
Gas switching chemical looping technology can be integrated into IGCC power plants to capture CO2 more efficiently. This technology uses metal oxygen carriers to circulate between reactors, reducing the need for energy-intensive CO2 capture methods. By using a combination of chemical looping combustion and oxygen production, the power plant can generate a constant flow of gas for the turbine and produce a stream of CO2 for purification. This approach was compared to traditional IGCC and pre-combustion CO2 capture methods, showing potential for improved efficiency and reduced energy losses.
