New study reveals wild eggplant has highest nutritional value in Sri Lanka.
A study compared the nutritional content of different types of eggplants and wild eggplants grown in Sri Lanka. They looked at protein, carbohydrates, minerals, vitamins, and fats in the fruits. The wild eggplant had the most protein, carbs, minerals, and vitamins C, D, and E. The eggplant variety called Elabatu had the most healthy fats. The commonly grown eggplant, Wambatu, had the most fiber and vitamins K, A, B1, and B2. However, Wambatu also had higher levels of harmful metals like cadmium and arsenic compared to the other types.
