High levels of heavy metals in Bangladeshi vegetables pose health risks.
Monitoring the levels of heavy metals in vegetables is crucial for ensuring food safety. In Bangladesh, vegetables from different areas were tested for metals like arsenic, cadmium, lead, copper, and zinc. Results showed that many vegetables had higher metal levels than recommended, posing potential health risks. While daily metal intake was below safe limits, the combined risk from all metals exceeded safe levels in some areas. High levels of arsenic and lead in certain vegetables could increase the risk of cancer for long-term consumers. The concentration of metals in vegetables greatly influences the risk of cancer.
